Ed Sheeran is a multi-platinum award-winning artist who’s famously known for being a one-man band on stage. And many people have pondered “how does he do it all?” To find out, you’ll need to go right back to his early gigging days, when he made a name for himself as one of the hardest-working musicians on the UK circuit. Read on to find out more…
Sheeran’s Early Days
Before Ed’s incredible mainstream success, he came from humble beginnings just like the rest of us. At a young age, he picked up the guitar and started writing songs that would eventually bring him the fame he has today.
After leaving school, Ed put everything into his musical career by playing as many gigs as humanly possible. His hard work started to pay off when he received acclaim from established artists in the music industry, leading to collaborations with the likes of Leddra Chapman and CeeLo Green.
However, he managed to propel his success through YouTube via SB.TV, eventually leading to him touring with Example. After hitting #2 on the iTunes charts with his independent EP No.5 Collaborations Project (featuring some of the UK’s hip hop & grime A-list, from Wiley to JME), his following grew even further. Staying true to his busking roots, Ed put on a free show in Camden Town where over 1,000 fans flocked to see him play. He even played on the street after the venue closed so that everyone could get in on the action. Before he knew it, he was signed to Asylum Records.
Mainstream Success
From doing free gigs to stadium tours, Ed Sheeran is the definition of global star. Since 2011 he has released 6 albums, all of which have dominated the charts, with numbers #1 hits like ‘A-Team’, ‘Thinking Out Loud’, ‘Photograph’, ‘Shape of You’, ‘I Don’t Care’, ‘Beautiful People’… A list that continues to grow.
Ed is also a keen collaborator, working with artists of all styles, including John Mayer (thought you might like that one), H.E.R, Eminem, Justin Bieber, Chris Stapleton, Bruno Mars, Stormzy, Elton John – wait did we mention John Mayer? Anyway, you get the point: Ed’s talent and musicianship have allowed him to work with artists across all genres which not only makes him one of the most liked people in the industry, but also the most versatile.
Sheeran By Lowden Guitars
In most recent years, Ed has been using his own brand of acoustic guitars – Sheeran by Lowden. These small bodied acoustics have been built with sustainable tonewoods sourced from naturally felled trees. For every tree used, another one is planted, saving the planet one guitar at a time.
